March 4, 2019

Turn your residential court into an outdoor gym.

Many folks are dealing with cabin fever and officially hit their breaking point! And with longer days and warmer nights on the horizon, residents of Pittsburgh are ready to ditch their indoor gym routine and get outside. Exercising in the outdoors is not only great for the body, but it’s great for the soul. If you have a residential sport court, bring your everyday gym workout home with you. If you don’t have a sport court, we think you’ll want one when you’re done with this article!

Pittsburgh residential court builders, Sport Court of Pittsburgh, have several ways you can use your sport court as an outdoor gym. So, freeze your gym membership, get outside and start crushing calories today!

Interval training combines high-intensity workouts with longer periods of rest to build up speed and endurance. It’s also come in handy for losing weight. Combine a few of the exercises below and get in a 30-minute session, with a lot of sweating!

Jumping rope: Probably one of the cheapest pieces of workout equipment, go back to your gym class days and spend a minute or two improving your balance and agility by jumping rope.

Sprints: Sprint from one end of the court to the other, jog backwards and repeat 5 times. If you can’t job backwards, no problem, jog back as your normally would.

Truck Jumps: Start with your knees slightly bent, feet shoulder-width apart. Squat down, jump straight up and bring your knees to your chest in midair. Do your best to sink back into the landing to absorb some of the impact. Do this several times to get your heart pumping.

Side Shuffles: Do side shuffles the full distance of the court and back, repeat 6 times.

This one is about as simple as it can get! Do things like getting back to your backyard hoops routine. Shoot around the key, do some layups, get your kids out for a pick-up game. If tennis is your sport of choice, get a partner for a post-work tennis match or encourage your spouse to join you after coffee on Saturday morning. Whatever the sport, use your court for your cardio routine!

CrossFit workouts are a popular among those looking to lose weight and build up their joint and muscle function. Lucky for you, many of these programs can be tailored to your at-home routine. Mix up the following exercises for a high-intensity workout.

5 push-ups
10 burpees or sit-ups

There are a ton of different ways to work on your abs. All you need is your own mat and solid-surface to get comfortable. Guess what, you’re sport courts has just that!
